Three Horror Movie & Tea Pairings for a Spooky Evening

Three Horror Movie & Tea Pairings for a Spooky Evening

Fall is the perfect time for horror. The evenings are cool and it starts getting darker sooner; all the trees are changing into gorgeous colors. Since Halloween is on the horizon, what better way to get you in the Halloween mood than holding a horror movie night? I have chosen three horror movies with tea and snack pairings to get you in the spirit of the season.

Housebound

This is a great horror comedy out of New Zealand. A young woman is put under house arrest after she fails at robbing an ATM. She has to stay with her ridiculous mother for eight months and hilarity ensues. After being in the house for a short time it becomes apparent that there is someone else in the house. This is a great movie to watch with a group of people. The jokes are quite clever and it has a definite creep factor as well.

Pair with: Calm Chamomile Bloom herbal tea because you will definitely need a calming blend as Kylie tries to figure out who is in the house while dealing with her mother and stepfather. Bake some nice, warm chocolate chip cookies to lighten your mood as the tension builds.

Nightmare on Elm Street

This is a cult classic for a reason, and you can’t have a scary movie night without a classic 80s horror movie. Freddy Kreuger is a serial killer who was burned alive by the angry townspeople but comes back from the dead to torment all the kids of those parents in their dreams. The teens realize they must stay awake or face Freddy the next time they fall asleep. It is a very campy movie but is still a lot of fun, especially with Freddy’s hilarious one liners. Due to the campiness of the film, it makes a great pick for any friends that you have that can’t handle the more intense horror movies.

Pair with: Stargazer Mate Chai. You definitely want that caffeine so Freddy can’t get you in your dreams! Pair with a nice big bowl of popcorn and sit back and enjoy Freddy’s crazy antics. One, two, Freddy’s coming for you...

Trick’ r Treat

I saved my favorite Halloween tradition for last. This is one of the few horror films that completely captures the Halloween spirit; four stories intertwine on the same Halloween night. Including things like ghosts, murders, and werewolves, there is something for everyone in this movie. All the characters will be safe as long as they follow the rules of the holiday. But of course, when do characters in a horror movie do the right thing...?

Pair with: Spicy Caramel Apple Cinnamon Herbal Tea since you definitely don’t want caffeine for this one -- its imagery and creepy stories are sure to keep you up late. This tea would pair nicely with some roasted pumpkin seeds sprinkled with sea salt. Make sure to keep that Jack-o’-lantern lit or else Sam will pay you a visit.
