To start, I received this in the Chai Sampler for October 2024 and am not generally a huge fan of cacao or chocolate reminiscent teas.
That said, this was very good with a slight hint of a spicy background note. For some reason it reminds me (in a few good way) of a really well done root beer despite not having sarsaparilla or anything in it.
For brewing information:
I used half the 4g sample and roughly a teaspoon of pure cane sugar in a 16 oz double wall glass mug.
1st brew time was ~5 minutes, where I pulled the strainer and then allowed the tea to sit for another 4 to 5 to cool off.
While I didn't see it recommended I did decide to experiment and did a 2nd brew with same leaves done with no sugar, same brew and cooling times had as expected a much lighter color, and the flavor was skewed more toward the aniseed/fennel/peppercorn. The flavor was still good but came across as a different tea since the balance was a bit different.
This would be very good as a latte with something like oat milk
