I’ve been there—sometimes for days, sometimes just the occasional off day. Either way, it’s no fun! Thankfully, this little article is all about the best tea for digestion. Aka, how to get (and keep) things rollin’ again so it’s smooth sailing ahead!
So, what's the best tea for digestion?

Common Causes of Digestive Issues

There are many causes as to why our bodies don’t work as they are so perfectly designed to. Did you know the digestive system isn’t limited to just our large and small intestines? In fact, the whole digestive tract includes our esophagus, stomach, large and small intestines, liver, pancreas, and gallbladder. These are a lot of body parts that all play a vital role in our overall health. Our gut health as I like to call it, and it’s one that shouldn’t be ignored!
Some causes include eating certain types of food (like gluten) which can cause bloating and pain. Certain medications can cause ulcers in the stomach, which can be painful and cause intense nausea. Constipation is often a result of a lack of fiber and fluids to keep things moving as they should. Even the notorious stomach bug can wreak havoc for a short period of time, causing vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps.
Don’t dismiss stress and anxiety, as these things too can be a major culprit of an upset tummy. While we may feel as if we hold these ailments in our head, neck, and shoulders, the truth is it often gets bound up in our digestive system as well. Causes symptoms such as constipation and heartburn.

What Helps?

When these symptoms strike, you don’t have to feel as if you’ve struck out. There are several ways to combat these symptoms and aid in a faster recovery of your gut health. Thankfully, I have one of the best medicines—tea!
There are several naturally occurring spices and roots in tea that help combat and lessen the symptoms of various digestive issues. There are many, but we’re just going to hit the basics and allow you to make an informed decision on what’s best for you. So, let’s get into the nitty-gritty!
First up is ginger. Ginger is an amazing root that helps calm the digestive tract and can greatly ease nausea. It’s my first go-to when I’m feeling so well. If you’re someone that feels like ginger is too strong, remember it doesn’t have to be strong to help. Even a smaller amount, such as that found in tea blends does wonders!
Cinnamon is a marvelous spice that, like ginger, is knowing for its calming properties. It’s warming as well as soothing. It’s great for appetite and helps aid in circulation. If you’re feeling overwhelmed with stress, have a stomach bug, or struggling with an ulcer, this spice is one of the best to grab off the shelf for a cuppa.
Introducing a common favorite—peppermint! Peppermint, whether it be in tea, candy, or any other variation, is a favorite of many when a digestive ailment strikes. One of the best qualities of peppermint is that it is antispasmodic, meaning it helps to calm the flair-ups of the digestive tract, especially when diarrhea is present. It’s soothing, cooling, and anti-microbial. I’d say a win across all fronts!

Imagine the perfect blend of zing, citrus, sweet, and calming—aka ginger, lemon, apple pieces, and rose petals. A bonus is licorice root for balance, which is just what the body needs when it’s down and out. I love this tea for all these wonderful qualities, but also the flexibility. Want a stronger cuppa? Simply brew longer!
Our Coconut Ginger Soother herbal tea is such a soothing blend of ginger and coconut. The added cinnamon and apple pieces make for a delightful brew that’s as divine on the senses as it is on the tummy. What I love most is the blend of ginger and cinnamon when I’m feeling nauseous or I’m anxious and things need to slow down a little.
A great whole digestive tract reset is our Full Body Reset. Lemon is amazing for the body to take in and aid in any pesky headache that may be lingering. Ginger, as we’ve discussed, is great for calming. The aromatic essence of the two is superb!
One final mention, that cannot be dismissed, is the Night Cap herbal tea. This blend pairs valerian root and peppermint. Peppermint is a great cure-all for what ails you.
