But, dads and fatherly figures can be tough to shop for when it comes to tea. Fruity herbal teas or unflavored malty black teas? Honey or sugar, or neither?
In my experience, the truth is that there's nothing different when buying tea gifts for dad than anyone else: everyone has different flavor preferences, so you need to do some sleuthing. Here's the Plum Deluxe guide on how to pick the best father's day tea gifts.
Become a Flavor Detective
Firstly, the tea. Almost all of our tea gift sets have tea included (and our most popular tea gift set, the Tea Trio, is nothing but tea), so you'll need to put your flavor detective hat on.
If your dad/father figure has a spouse/partner, you've got the inside track. Ask them what kind of teas he likes to drink on a regular basis - and see if you can spot anything in common. Most important: does he like caffeine? If nothing else, this is crucial. Another thing to consider is the times of day he takes tea (since we have teas great for morning, afternoon, and night).
If you have direct access, try to sneak a peek at his tea cupboard - invite yourself for a cuppa! This will help you find out what to include in your tea gift. For dads, some perennial favorites to consider: English Breakfast, Irish Breakfast, Earl Grey, or a light fruity white tea.
Does dad like to try new tea flavors?
If the father figure in question seems to have a never-ending rotation of tea flavors in his cupboard, then consider doing a tea of the month gift subscription - for our organic club (only $10/month), we have father's day tea gift subscriptions for 3, 6, or 12 months.
Subscription boxes are great as gifts because they have the feeling that the gift literally does keep on giving - and in our particular club, even gift recipients can take advantage of the benefits like free shipping on extra teas, tea swaps, and attend community meetups. We have several housebound gentlemen in our tea club who enjoy the online sharing of our community as a way to connect with like-minded folks.
One lump of sugar (or none)?
Personally, I also like to include some tea accessory consumables when I do tea gifts for dads - a packet of honey sticks, or some rock sugar for tea, and then I pick up some fresh shortbread from my favorite local bakery. It's an inexpensive way to add to the gift, and it's just a nice addition that says you care.
Of course, check to make sure that your fatherly figure actually does take sweetener with their tea! If they don't, consider splurging on a nice tea infuser - our cherrywood tea nest infuser has a masculine feel to it.
Lastly, don't forget a nice note! If you're ordering from Plum Deluxe and having the gift sent directly (our orders are packed gift-ready), be sure to put your gift note in the order notes. If you're ordering it to hand-deliver it yourself, hand-write a note. Tell your dad/fatherly figure why you appreciate them in your life - maybe it's a big thing or maybe it's something small they did that you want to acknowledge him for.
Trust me, he'll be very grateful.
